PCOS may not be transmitting to other servers, poll execs say

Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines may be transmitting to computer servers of the Commission on Elections but not to others, causing a slowdown in the flow of data received by the computer server of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, poll officials said on Thursday. According to the Comelec's tally early Wednesday, 96 percent of the precincts have already transmitted their ERs, while only 89.7 percent have been recorded by the PPCRV as of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. "The PCOS might be able to send to the Comelec server but unable to send to PPCRV's," Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said. On the other hand, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the PPCRV server might have bogged down, although he did not confirm it."[A]nyway they have their own technicians to [solve the problem]," Jimenez said. In a phone interview with GMANews.TV, however, PPCRV's Anna De Villa-Singson denied that their servers have bogged down, saying it might just be taking time to download the transmitted data. "The data coming in might not have been downloaded by the server yet… but [our servers] are not bogging down. We are just communicating the data as they come to us… we do not dictate the pace," Singson said. The poll body also earlier said that malfunctioning compact flash (CF) cards—which contain instructions on how the PCOS machines read ballots and transmit results—were also causing delays in the transmission of election data. (See: Malfunctioning CF cards may delay proclamation of winners) Election results transmitted electronically to the different servers come from the PCOS machines and are the sources of the partial and unofficial tallies produced by the Comelec, PPCRV, and others who have been given access such as GMA Network and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP). –JV, GMANews.TV
