Senate, House leaders reportedly agree to hold sessions a week earlier

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Prospero Nograles are set to ask members of their respective chambers to resume sessions on May 24, a week earlier than scheduled, sources familiar with the matter told GMANews.TV on Friday. The move is expected to expedite the process of adopting rules for the canvassing of votes for president and vice-president. In a meeting at an undisclosed venue, Enrile and Nograles agreed to open the session a week earlier than the scheduled May 31 opening, sources said. On the Monday of that week, each chamber will be holding their own sessions to discuss the proposed rules. The Senate and House of Representatives will convene as the National Board of Canvassers and start its joint sessions on May 25 to adopt the rules and count votes for the president and vice president. The two chambers are expected to hold sessions from Monday to Friday until they finish canvassing and proclaim the Philippines’ new president and vice-president. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
