Remaining 3 senators to be proclaimed on Tuesday, Comelec says


The remaining three of twelve senators will be proclaimed on Tuesday morning, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said. The ceremony will be held at 10 in the morning on Tuesday at the session hall of the Comelec in Intramuros, Manila, Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said in an ambush interview with reporters on Monday. Expected to fill the last three of the 12 slots are consistent 10th to 12th placers Sergio Osmena III (Independent) with 11,312,362 votes, Manuel Lapid (Lakas-Kampi) with 10,573,073 votes, and Teofisto Guingona III (LP) with 9,932,278 votes as of Monday 11 a.m. But trailing the three at 13th place is Akbayan Rep. Ana Theresia “Risa" Hontiveros-Baraquel with 8,816,620 votes. Behind Hontiveros are Muntinlupa Rep. Rozzano “Ruffy" Biazon with 8,337,692 votes and Jose de Venecia III with 8,043,905 votes who now rank 14th and 15th, respectively. On Saturday afternoon, the poll body — sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) — already proclaimed nine of the 12 senators, namely:

  • BONG REVILLA, Ramon (Lakas-Kampi) — 18,218,514 votes
  • ESTRADA, Jose (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) — 17,722,162 votes
  • DEFENSOR-SANTIAGO, Miriam of the People's Reform Party (PRP) — 16,066,001 votes
  • DRILON, Franklin of the Liberal Party (LP) — 14,770,612 votes
  • ENRILE, Juan Ponce (PMP) — 14,695,263 votes
  • CAYETANO, Pilar Juliana of Nacionalista Party (NP) — 12,821,946 votes
  • MARCOS, Ferdinand Jr. (NP) — 12,372,118 votes
  • RECTO, Ralph (LP) — 11,640,679 votes
  • SOTTO, Vicente III of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) — 11,160,077 votes
Saturday's proclamation was based on 115 certificates of canvass (COC). Of the total 274 COCs, 171 are from the overseas absentee voting. As of Monday, the Comelec has canvassed 118 COCs. Larrazabal said that among the provinces which have yet to transmit their COCs are Mt. Province (101,983 registered voters), Basilan (173,661), and Lanao del Sur (515,448). - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
