Junior Navy officer found dead inside his room

A junior Navy officer was found dead on Monday night inside his room in the military’s general headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, the spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday. Lt. Marvin Mariano of the Philippine Navy’s communication office was found dead with a gunshot wound inside his quarters on Monday night, Lt. Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos said Tuesday. Military deputy spokesperson Capt. Enrico Ileto meanwhile said that Mariano’s officemates were looking for him at past 8 p.m. Monday when they found his room locked. The military men had to force open Mariano’s room, and later found the officer’s bloodied body inside the quarters, he added. Investigators are not ruling out a possible suicide angle into Mariano’s death since there were no signs of attack of the Navy officer, Burgos said.
