Two people hospitalized after being downed by chemical fumes

At least two people were hospitalized after being downed by chemical fumes from a container tank in a residential area in Quezon City on Tuesday. Radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported Tuesday night residents near the house at Barangay Pinyahan noticed the fumes as early as 9 a.m., but the fumes got worse until 1 p.m. Quezon City Police District Station 10 head Superintendent Sixto Arevalo identified the two who were rushed to hospitals because of the fumes as Regino Basilio, 78; and lawyer David Arroyo, 90. Basilio was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center while Arroyo was brought to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center. The report also said several animals in the residential area died, including pet dogs and love birds. Investigator-on-case PO3 Joey Cortez said witnesses described the smell as that of a bleaching solution. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
