72 students tested positive for illegal drugs — report

Seventy-two students — 26 of them from the National Capital Region (NCR) — have been tested positive for illegal drugs, a television report said Tuesday night citing data from the Department of Education (DepEd). A report on QTV's "News on Q" said the random drug tests were conducted from February to December last year.

"We're heartened na hindi ganun kalaki ang lumabas (that the number is not that big), but it's still alarming," said DepEd assistant secretary Jonathan Maglaya. The report said the students were mostly tested positive for the use of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and marijuana. A similar drug test would be conducted this year, the DepEd said. - KBK, GMANews.TV
