PAGASA: Hot, sticky weather signals coming of rainy season

After Tuesday's surprise rain showers, residents in Metro Manila can expect some isolated rains again on Wednesday, along with hot, sticky weather that signals rainy season might come “on schedule" in June. State weather forecasters said such high humidity means the atmosphere is already moisture-laden, and that the rainy season is coming closer. "Naramdaman natin napaka-humid ng kapaligiran, napakataas ng relative humidity. Ibig, sabihin moisture-laden na ang atmosphere. Itong inaasahan natin pagpasok ng June makakaramdam tayo ng pag-ulan (In past days we have been feeling the high humidity. This means the atmosphere is moisture-laden, and the rainy season will come as schedule in June)," Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Elvie Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio. "Mainit at maalinsangan, talagang malapit na rin ang tag-ulan (The hot and humid weather means the rainy season is getting closer)," she added. On Tuesday, residents experienced relief of sorts from the summer heat when isolated rain showers fell on some parts of Metro Manila. Enriquez also said the temperature will remain relatively cool at 27 to 36 degrees - compared to the 37-degree temperature Metro Manila residents had endured in past weeks. PAGASA's extended forecast indicated a temperature range of 27 to 36 degrees for Metro Manila, and up to 34 degrees for Tuguegarao City. Meanwhile, PAGASA said the tail-end of a cold front is affecting Northern and Central Luzon while an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting Mindanao. "Mindanao and Northern and Central Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.— LBG, GMANews.TV
