Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2010 opens May 26

Novice designer Veejay Floresca describes his collection for PHilippine Fashion Week 2010 as "imperfect but beautiful."
It’s the 13th season of the Philippine Fashion Week, and for the style savvy, all roads lead to this must-see fashion event.

The SMX Convention Center will be a mecca for the movers and shakers of the fashion industry as 112 designers and four clothing brands present their Holiday 2010 collections from May 26 to June 2. Participants range from veterans like Frederick Peralta and Ronaldo Arnaldo, to new and young designers like Veejay Floresca and Tina Daniac, and even to fresh graduates like the students of School of Fashion and the Arts Manila (SOFA).

Aside from boosting a fashionista’s social calendar, the runway shows are major industry events that shape the future of fashion, define media moods and set the tone for the apparel and accessories market for seasons to come.

The designers’ collections exhibit key take-away concepts, color and silhouettes as well as up-trends in clothing, textile and accessories design.

While the collections of more seasoned designers are highlighted during this event, the Philippine Fashion Week also serves as a platform for new designers to showcase their innovative ideas and fresh talent.

Novice designer Floresca shares the thrill and challenge of being part of the show, “As a young designer, it is a great accomplishment to put up an entire collection. This is my sixth time to join Philippine Fashion Week and I always do 10-piece collections. But this is my first time to execute a 30 - piece collection."

Floresca said his collection is a celebration of unusual silhouettes, deformed structures and uneven proportions, taking inspiration from the statue of Venus de Milo. “It’s imperfect but very beautiful," he adds.

Designer Tina Daniac who is also a new player in the fashion field, boasts of random inspiration. “It ranges from an Orlina glass or a Ben Cab painting, a ballad, a cutout from a magazine, a photograph, the beach, going out of town or traveling." She said her collection will always be “ever-changing, innovative and trend setting."

Philippine Fashion Week will not be complete without the intricate collections of seasoned designers like Peralta and Arnaldo, who serve as inspirations for young designers who want to make a name in the fashion industry.
