Heavy rains, tornado destroy six houses in Bacolod

Heavy rains followed by a small tornado destroyed six houses and damaged 17 others in two villages in Bacolod City on Wednesday. Two houses were destroyed in Tangub village and four homes were demolished in Pahanocoy village, online news site Visayan Daily Star reported Friday, adding that the rains lasted for more than an hour. Homeowners whose properties were destroyed will be given financial assistance worth P5,000 while those whose houses were damaged will be given P3,000, City Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas said. Water rose in some areas in Bacolod City when heavy rains poured Wednesday afternoon. Vargas said Bacolod’s drainage system, especially along national roads, is clogged.
