Palace: Canvassing woes won't stall proclamation

While lengthy debates may have slowed down the canvassing of votes for president and vice president, Malacañang remains confident these will not drag long enough to foil the timely proclamation of the winners. Deputy presidential spokesman Gary Olivar said Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Prospero Nograles are aware of the time constraint and are taking measures to address delays. “Based on their pronouncements, it seems to us they are conscious about the deadline and doing their best to beat the deadline," Olivar said on government-run dzRB radio. He cited reports quoting Enrile and Nograles that the two remain optimistic Congress acting as the National Board of Canvassers can declare the winners by June 15 at the latest. Debates (mostly over alleged poll fraud) have slowed down the counting of votes for president and vice president. “Conscious of the ... time constraint ang mga nasa Senado at Kongreso (Both senators and House members are conscious of the time constraint)," Olivar said.
