14th Congress eyes 3-day legislative work before bowing out

Amid delays in its canvassing of votes for president and vice president, the 14th Congress is still hoping to have three days to tackle pending measures, including the Freedom of Information bill. House Speaker Prospero Nograles said Monday the last three session days for legislative work in the 14th Congress may take place June 16 to 18, if a new president is proclaimed June 15. “Yung proposal ko is the day after the proclamation. After June 15 ma-proclaim, June 16 mag-convene. Malamang tatlong araw lang, (bago ang… closing ceremonies. Buhay pa naman ang 14th Congress hanggang June 30 (I had proposed that we hold three days session for legislative matters. If a new president is proclaimed June 15, we can convene June 16, perhaps for three days. The 14th Congress’ life extends until June 30)," Nograles said in an interview on dzBB radio. Nograles also said he already “committed" to working for the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill, adding he will act on it once discussions for it are opened on the floor.
But for now, he said they cannot tackle the measure yet as the canvassing is still ongoing. Catholic Churches in several parts of the country held masses Sunday afternoon for the swift passage of the measure. “Di pwede dahil sa session hall may canvassing (We cannot tackle it now because we are still engaged in canvassing)," Nograles said. “The moment magkaroon kami ng session on legislative matters pwede ipasok yan (The moment we hold sessions on legislative matters, we can tackle it)," he added. — LBG, GMANews.TV
