Report: Boat passenger’s suicide try foiled off Batangas

A depressed boat passenger tried to commit suicide by jumping from a passenger ship he was riding off Batangas province, a radio report said Monday. Radio dzXL cited a report reaching Coast Guard Batangas station commander Lt. Cmdr. Troy Cornelio that crew members of the M/V San Paulo rescued Jory dela Cruz after he jumped off the ship. The incident occurred while the ship was heading from Cebu to Manila. Initial investigation showed Dela Cruz jumped off the ship as it reached Bataya Point near Maricaban Island in Batangas City. But crew members managed to rescue him after noticing he was suffering from depression. Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard rescued some 100 passengers of a vessel that stalled off Quezon province Monday. Radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo cited initial reports reaching the Coast Guard that the vessel was heading from Lucena City to Marinduque when it stalled. — LBG, GMANews.TV
