PAGASA: Monsoon trough to bring more rains, cooler weather

A low-pressure area (LPA) that brought rains to parts of Luzon is now exiting Philippine territory, but a monsoon trough will bring more rains and cooler weather to parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila. State weather forecasters also said continued rains may mean bad news for residents of Cotabato City in Mindanao, who had been affected by floods. "Inaasahan sa Metro Manila ang madalas na pag-uulap ng kalangitan na magdudulot ng malamig na kapaligiran at minsan [ay] malakas na ihip ng hangin (Metro Manila residents can expect cloudy skies with cooler weather and possible winds)," Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Elvie Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio Wednesday. "Ang monsoon trough is enough para makadulot ng ulan-ulan lalo sa kanlurang bahagi ng Luzon kabilang ang Metro Manila (The monsoon trough is enough to bring rains particularly to Western Luzon, including Metro Manila)," Enriquez added.

Enriquez said temperatures for Metro Manila for Wednesday will range from 26 and 32 degrees Celsius, a far cry from the 38-degree weather registered last May. She added Tuesday's "hottest" temperature in Metro Manila was recorded at 10 a.m., at 32.2 degrees. A low-pressure area near Northern Luzon had brought rains to parts of the country last weekend, but Enriquez said it is now moving out of Philippine territory. On the other hand, Enriquez said rains will stil fall over Cotabato City, which had experienced flooding in past days. "Inaasahan ang pag-ulan sa lugar na yan ... maging handa tayo sa ganoong eventualities (Rains had been expected there. We just have to make the necessary preparations for those eventualities)," she said. Meanwhile, Pagasa's 5 a.m. bulletin said Luzon and Visayas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. It added that the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. No scheduled brownouts for Metro Manila With demand for electricity lessened due to the rains and cooler weather, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said there are no scheduled brownouts for Wednesday. Meralco's Teresa Adriano said in an interview on dzBB that they also expect some power plants that went offline to go back online. "Pagka medyo mababa ang demand at sapat ang supply na nakukuha natin based sa plant na ito di natin kailangan mag-interrupt ng supply ng kuryente ng customer (If demand stays low and we have enough supply from our plants, we do not need to interrupt power service)," Adriano said. "Wala kaming scheduled na rotating brownouts today (pero) ang reserves forecast medyo maliit lang. Huwag lang biglang mag-trip o masira (We have no scheduled rotating brownouts but our reserves are low. We just hope there are no sudden problems with our power plants)," she added. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
