TV thief arrested after 7-year stay in Australia

A thief convicted of stealing a TV set who later sought refuge in Australia has been arrested upon his arrival at the airport by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Eduardo “Eddieboy" T. Tamayo Jr., who is turning 34 this June 14, was arrested by NBI operatives when he arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 in Pasay City, NBI Interpol Division Chief Atty. Claro de Castro Jr. said. Tamayo, a resident of Pasig City, has been convicted for robbery by Judge Amelia Fabros of the Pasig Regional Trial Court after having violated the Revised Penal Code’s Article 299, NBI records show. In March 2002, he was charged with unlawfully taking possession of a television set in the Pasig City Livelihood Center. During the trial, he jumped bail, fleeing to Australia where he stayed for seven years. He eventually got married in Australia and had two children. Tamayo may have gotten the impression that no one was interested in pursuing the case anymore, prompting him to decide to come home and visit his relatives, De Castro said. Unfortunately, his planned vacation in his home country failed to work out as he was placed under arrest upon setting foot at the airport. He is expected to serve anywhere from two to eight years imprisonment at the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
