Three injured in seven-vehicle smashup in Quezon City

At least three people were reported injured in a seven-vehicle smashup allegedly caused by a race between two trucks in Quezon City on early Wednesday morning. The incident at the corner of A. Mabini and Mauban Streets in Quezon City snarled early morning rush-hour traffic, Radio dzBB's Manny Vargas said. "Papunta kami sa Manila, bigla kami binangga ng truck sa likod. Sa lakas ng impact kami tumagilid at nagkarambola ... Parang naghahabulan sila, parang nawalan ng preno," said George Pelagrosa, driver of one of the delivery trucks involved in the smashup. (We were heading for Manila when we were hit from behind by a truck. The impact caused the van I was driving to overturn. It seemed the two dump trucks were racing each other and the brakes on one of the dump trucks failed.) Two trucks, a delivery truck carrying chickens, a closed van transporting vegetables, another closed van, and a white Toyota Corolla were involved in the smashup. An updated dzBB report said the three injured, initially identified as Romeo Santelices, Jaime Dacutan, and truck helper Danilo de Belen, were brought to the Chinese General Hospital in Manila. Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the accident. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
