Suspected member of private armed group in Samar killed in clash

A suspected member of a local politician's private armed group in Samar was killed, while another one was arrested in an encounter with policemen early Tuesday morning. A certain Bong, alias Bono Tamayo, was killed after a gunfight with the police at Barangay Pinaplata in Gandara town, Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina, spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said. Authorities also apprehended a certain Detty Tamayo, 38, who was taken to police custody for questioning. Bong and Tamayo were later found to be subjects of separate arrest warrants for murder charges, investigators said. Seven long firearms and a homemade shotgun were recovered from the fight scene.
