MMDA to deploy 2000 traffic enforcers for school opening
At least 2,000 traffic enforcers of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be deployed at the opening of classes on June 15 to ensure students' safety and manage traffic in school zones. Radio dzBB reported Wednesday the MMDA bared this following an inter-agency meeting called by the Department of Education for the opening of classes. The MMDA said it will also fix road signage with priority on national roads and roads near schools. For its part, the Department of Edducation (DepEd) said it is 100-percent ready for the opening of classes in the elementary and high school levels on June 15. Radio dzBB's Cecille Villarosa reported DepEd Secretary Mona Valisno as saying that the MMDA has pledged to work in the declogging waterways against floods aside from managing traffic. The Department of Public Works and Highways added it is paving roads near schools. For its part, the Department of Interior and Local Government said it already ordered village officials to help the Philippine National Police secure students. Water concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad Water promised potable water supply while the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) pledged stable power supply in schools. — LBG, GMANews.TV
