Western Visayas, including Boracay, suffers from 15-hour blackout

Residents in Aklan province in Western Visayas, including the famous Boracay Island, suffered a 15-hour blackout Wednesday. Residents affected by the blackout were customers of Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO), a report on dzXL radio on Thursday said. The blackout started at 1 a.m. and power was partially restored at 4 p.m., the report said. As of Thursday morning, power supply had not normalized as electricity remained fluctuating in some parts of the province. Initial investigation showed problems involving the power lines of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in Dao town in Capiz province. The NGCP, a privately-led entity, runs the Philippines’ power grid. - RJAB Jr./JV, GMANews.TV
