Independence Day traffic rerouting scheme in Manila


Vehicular traffic along several major thoroughfares in the City of Manila will be rerouted on Saturday, June 12, to give way to the 112th Philippine Independence Day celebrations at the Luneta Park, the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) announced on Thursday. The traffic rerouting scheme will be divided into two periods: the first period from 6 to 9 a.m., and the second period from 12:00 noon onwards.
Morning rerouting From 6 to 9 a.m., the stretch of Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak to T.M. Kalaw, both north-bound and south-bound lanes, will be closed to give way to the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park. The MDTEU advised motorists to observe the following alternative routes during these hours:

  1. South-bound traffic coming from Del Pan bridge and Pier area must turn left to P. Burgos, then right to Maria Orosa, and from there to regular routes towards destination.
  2. North-bound traffic along Roxas Boulevard must turn right at T.M. Kalaw, and from there to regular routes towards destination.
  3. All vehicles coming from three bridges (McArthur, Jones and Quezon) that intend to take the south-bound lane of Roxas Blvd from P. Burgos, must instead take the Round Table, proceed to Maria Orosa, and from there to regular routes towards destination.
  4. All cargo trucks traveling along Osmena Highway must turn right at Pres. Quirino Avenue, straight ahead to Nagtahan, A.H. Lacson, Yuseco, crossing Jose Abad Santos, straight Raxabago, then Capulong, and from there to regular routes towards destination, and vice versa.
Thoroughfare sections closed to traffic June 12 2010 closed roadsAfternoon rerouting From 12 noon onwards, the following thoroughfare sections will be closed to all vehicular traffic to give way to the civil and military parade:
  • The stretch of Roxas Blvd. and Bonifacio Drive (north-bound and south-bound) from Anda Circle to Pres. Quirino Avenue;
  • the stretch of P. Burgos both east-bound and west-bound from Roxas Blvd. to Maria Orosa;
  • the stretch of T.M. Kalaw east-bound and west-bound from Roxas Blvd. to M.H. Del Pilar;
  • Finance Road/ Taft Avenue; and
  • Lagusnilad/ P. Burgos.
The MDTEU advised motorists to observe the following alternative routes during these hours:
  1. All vehicles traveling northward along Roxas Blvd. shall turn right on President Quirino, and from there to regular routes towards destination.
  2. All vehicles from the Pier Zone or other northern parts of Manila using the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Blvd. must turn left at A. Soriano, and from there to regular routes towards destination.
  3. All travelling intended to use the three bridges using Roxas Blvd. must go straight to Taft, turn right at Pres. Quirino, and from there to regular routes towards destination.
  4. All cargo trucks traveling along Osmena Highway must turn right at Pres. Quirino Avenue, straight ahead to Nagtahan, A.H. Lacson, Yuseco, crossing Jose Abad Santos, straight Raxabago, then Capulong, and from there to regular routes towards destination, and vice versa.
  5. Public utility jeepneys and other vehicles intending to proceed to Pier South coming from the three bridges must turn right at Victoria St., and from there to regular routes towards destination.
