Militant teachers, students picket Noynoy's residence in QC

A holiday did not stop militant teachers and students from picketing the house of President-elect Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III in Quezon City on Monday. No violent confrontation during the pickets by the Teachers' Dignity Coalition and League of Filipino Students took place, Radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported. Members of TDC called for a wage hike for teachers and a stop to contractualization as well as the ouster of Government Service Insurance System head Winston Garcia. The teachers likewise called for better benefits for their colleagues.

On the other hand, the LFS pushed for a moratorium on tuition hikes and increased government subsidy for education. They also called on Aquino to make outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo accountable for her so-called crimes during her nine-year rule. It was not the first time militant groups picketed Aquino's house in Quezon City. Earlier, militant urban poor groups demonstrated before Aquino's house and called for a stop to demolitions. — RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
