Binay won't swear in Marcoses — spokesman

(Updated 8:11 p.m.) Although invited, Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay will not administer the oath-taking of members of the Marcos family who won in the recently concluded elections. Joey Salgado, Binay’s media affairs officer, cited conflict in schedule as the reason why the vice president-elect couldn’t administer the oath-taking of Senator-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong" Marcos Jr., Rep.-elect Imelda Marcos, and Ilocos Norte Governor-elect Imee Marcos. “Inimbita si Vice-President, pero hindi puwede dahil oath-taking niya ‘yun (The vice president was invited, but he is not available because he has to attend to his own oath-taking)," Salgado said in a text message to GMANews.TV. Binay, a street parliamentarian and human rights lawyer during the administration of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, will just meet with local officials from Ilocos after his inauguration, Salgado said. GMANews.TV contacted Imelda’s spokesman, Lito Gorospe, but he refused to elaborate on the details of the Marcoses’ oath-taking. - Andreo Calonzo and Sophia Dedace/KBK, GMANews.TV
