Noynoy distances himself from Kris-James ‘rift’

He may be Kris Aquino's kuya (elder brother), but President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III won't interfere in his youngest sister's latest marital problem. In an interview with reporters inside his Times Street home, Noynoy said he would only dispense advice to Kris and her husband, professional basketball star James Yap, if they ask him to. "Sabi ng tatay ko, di ka gumigitna sa problema kung may problema [ang] mag-asawa (My father said one should never interfere in marital problems)," said Noynoy, still a bachelor at 50. "So hanggang di ka hahanapan ng payo o abiso, di ako maghihimasok (So unless they ask me for advice, I won't interfere)," he added. Kris said on her Twitter account earlier in the week that she and Yap have a still-unresolved "big misunderstanding" that developed over the campaign period. Kris had actively campaigned for her brother then by going to provincial sorties, speaking at political rallies, and appearing in political advertisements for him and some of his party-mates. "We went through a difficult time during the campaign- stress & long hours led to a big misunderstanding. I have never lied to all of u- until now hindi pa completely na-fi-fix. That's y I've just chosen to keep quiet since it's something very private," Kris tweeted. Kris, who is known for her frankness about her private life, earlier said during the campaign period that she was willing to go abroad if she would be the cause of distress of her brother if he becomes president. When Noynoy won in the elections, many called on Kris to keep her promise and even formed a Facebook group on her despedida. Noynoy then came to his sister's rescue, pointing out that Kris has every right to stay in the Philippines because she is a citizen and has not committed any crime. — Jam Sisante/RSJ, GMANews.TV
