Road accident kills 4 in Cebu, 1 week after bus crash


Eight days after a road accident claimed the lives of 21 people, another freak accident killed at least four people while they were preparing for a fiesta in Cebu province late Monday. Radio dzBB reported Tuesday the incident in Toledo City involved two container vans getting loose from a trailer truck that went out of control, and falling on the victims. The victims in Poog village in Toledo City had been preparing to mark the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ fiesta Tuesday when the incident occurred, the report said. Police took the driver of the truck, Joel Pepito, who is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to property. A report on Sun.Star Cebu identified the fatalities as Efren Alfante Sitoy, 24, Ariel Roble, 19, Orlando Sunggayan, 32, and Juliet Mainit. Injured were Vilma Casas, 39, Laarni Hermoso, 26, Eldy Hermoso, 26, Avita Castañares, 45, Adrian Sunggayan, 4, Angie Sunggayan, 10, and truck boys Peter Abadilla, 28, Henry Castañares, 34. Monday’s accident came eight days after a tourist bus carrying Iranian medical students and doctors fell into a ravine in Balamban town in Cebu due to brake failure.
