Phelps qualifies for 200 finals in Paris

PARIS — Michael Phelps has qualified for the finals of his two remaining events at the Paris Open. Phelps, who entered four races in Paris as part of his preparations for the American trials, posted the sixth best time of 1 minute 50.72 seconds in the 200-meter freestyle heats Sunday before qualifying for the 200 medley final with the quickest time of 2 minutes 03.72 seconds. The 16-time Olympic medalist didn't push too hard in the 200 free and even slowed down before touching the wall. Phelps easily won the 200-meter butterfly on Saturday but ended a disappointing last in the 100-meter freestyle. The American trials will determine the roster for August's Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California. – AP
