RP bet Ardina loses in her NAC golf title bid

The Philippines' Dottie Ardina was beaten by American Jaclyn Jansen in the finals of the Women's Western Golf Association (WWGA) 110th National Amateur Championship in Rochester, Minnesota. Ardina missed two birdies in the 33rd and 34th holes, which proved to be the turning point in the 36-hole finale.

Down by three after 27 holes, Ardina was very resilient and was not about to give up that easily. She won the 28th with a regular par, canned a five-foot birdie on the 29th then capped it with a tap-in eagle on the 30th, a par-five hole at No. 12, to force an all-square match. Ardina, who earned a finals spot after a 2-up win over Arizona's Ashley McKenney in the semis, then made an easy par to seize a 1-up advantage off her taller rival in the 31st. But apparently, the 16-year-old Filipina got tired from her rally. She completely missed the green on the 33rd which Jansen calmly birdied from five feet. Ardina had one more chance but she failed a three-footer for birdie on the 34th that gave back a 1-up lead to Jansen. "I lost to a better player. It was not an easy job to rally. You really can't be behind a lot in match play. At some point, it will take a toll on you," Ardina said. Both amateurs played to pars in the last two holes that clinched the triumph to Jansen in the event that drew 96 of the leading junior players in the world, including five other Filipina bets – Mia Piccio, Sarah Ababa, Daniella Uy, Bambee Dela Paz and Andrea Unson. – JVP, Adrian Flores, GMANews.TV
