MMDA bares traffic rerouting scheme for June 30 inauguration

Major roads in the vicinity of the Quirino Grandstand will be closed on June 30 during the inauguration rites for President-elect Benigno Aquino III and Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay. The stretch of both north-bound and south-bound lanes of Roxas Boulevard and Bonifacio Drive, from Quirino Avenue to Anda Circle, will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 7:00 a.m. on June 30, according to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) information desk contacted by GMANews.TV. The stretch of P. Burgos and T.M. Kalaw, both east and west, will also be closed from Roxas Boulevard to Maria Orosa street. Affected roads include Finance Road, Taft Avenue and Lagusnilad. North-bound vehicles from Osmeña Highway are thus advised to turn right on Quirino Avenue; take Nagtahan, Lacson and Yuseco streets; and then cross Jose Abad Santos Avenue to take Raxabago and Capulong streets. Vehicles from the Pier Zone going to Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard may turn left on A. Soriano Street. Meanwhile, vehicles planning to take the Jones, McArthur and Quezon bridges going to Roxas Boulevard may take Taft Avenue and turn right on Quirino Avenue. Public vehicles going to the Pier area are likewise advised to turn right on Victoria Street to get to their destination. There is no notice yet when the affected roads will be re-opened. In light of this, some 360 traffic enforcers coming from the MMDA and the Philippine National Police will be deployed along Roxas Boulevard and Quirino Avenue, all the way to the streets of España, Lacson, San Lazaro and Yuseco. The MMDA said the rerouting scheme may still be changed as details will still be ironed out in the meeting between the PNP and the Inauguration Committee on Monday morning.—Jerrie M.
