James Yap still mum on breakup with Kris

Even as Kris Aquino — popular talk show host, actress, and youngest sister of President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III — has confirmed the end of her marriage, the camp of husband James Yap remains mum on the issue. Yap, a star basketball player, has been evading requests for interview since last week when rumors of the breakup were circulating. His manager, Dondon Monteverde, and Aquino's close friend and fellow TV host Boy Abunda have likewise refused to comment on the issue. Without elaborating on her reasons, Aquino on Sunday said she has "given up" on her five-year marriage with Yap. They have a two-year-old son, Baby James. "I didn't reveal anything... primarily because i feel it's my duty to protect Baby James sine he'll be most affected by my decision," Aquino said in a text message to GMA News' entertainment reporter Lhar Santiago.

"In my heart and conscience I know that my son will understand, respect and love me when I explain to him when he's old enough to understand what has happened," she further wrote. Aquino also said that the legal aspects of their separation are being arranged. Rumors of the couple's highly publicized marital problem first surfaced after Aquino admitted on Twitter that things are still rocky between them and that they had a misunderstanding during the campaign. Aquino's sisters Pinky and Ballsy, and cousin Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski have all expressed support for her. "Let's also pray for Kris because she's having problems right now," Pinky said on June 25. "I don't think any married couple has a perfect marriage so I hope it's just one of his things," Ballsy said in a separate interview. "As Kris' cousin, I am praying for what will make them happy, and that things turn out well," said Cojuangco. - Jerrie Abella/KBK, GMANews.TV
