Church to keep watch on Noynoy's first 100 days

Philippine Catholic bishops vowed to closely monitor the first 100 days of President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino once he officially assumes the presidency on Wednesday. "[It] is part of our socio-political advocacy," said a spokesperson of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said on Tuesday, a day before Aquino’s inaugural. "It is part and parcel of our mission to be vigilant." “Otherwise we will be remiss with our duties as a Church if we don’t do that. It is part of the mission of the Church," Msgr. Pedro Quitorio III, CBCP spokesperson, added. The Church will keep an eye on the development of the Reproductive Health Bill, which it opposes, under the Noynoy Aquino administration. “If they will continue to push for this Reproductive Health (RH) Bill, the Church will definitely make known its stand and oppose it," Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez said. The Church opposed the passage of the RH bill in Congress since it prompted artificial family planning. The Church only promotes and supports natural family planning. Besides the RH bill, the Church also opposes the proposed inclusion of sex education in public schools. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
