Filipino junior netters crash out of Wimbledon

Pitted against tough opponents, Filipino bets Jeson Patrombon and Francis Casey Alcantara – playing with separate partners – were shown the exit door in the doubles event of the 2010 Wimbledon Junior Open Championships Patrombon, the country's top junior netter ranked 39th by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), teamed up with Tunisian Ahmed Triki where they suffered a straight set 6-3, 6-2 loss to second seeds Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia's Mate Pavic. He thus ended an unproductive stint at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London after he also suffered a first round defeat in the singles event, a 6-1, 7-5 setback to American Mitchell Frank. Despite Patrombon's early exit, coach Manny Tecson said they had achieved their objective of competing in the tough European Tour. "The European circuit is tough but we have survived and we did not come out empty handed. We did exactly what we came here for and that is to test our skills with the best and the results are very positive and encouraging," he said. Patrombon competed in eight European tournaments with a Round of 16 stint his best performance in the singles event of the 2010 Offenbach Tennis Championship while a runner-up finish, with partner Michael Krueger of the USA, in doubles play in the Gerry Weber Open. Both ITF Grade I events were played in Germany. While Alcantara teamed up for the second time with Britain's Oliver Golding but their partnership suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss against USA’s Dennis Kudla and Raymond Sarmiento, who is a Filipino-American. Alcantara and Golding, fresh from a runner-up finish at the AEGON Junior International, failed to match the game of their third-seeded opponents to bomb out of competition. Fatigue could have also affected Golding's performance since the 16-year-old Briton is fresh from a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 triumph over top seed Jason Kubler of Australia to reach the quarterfinal round in the boys' singles. Alcantara, 18, reached the Round of 32 in the singles event of the Wimbledon Juniors. – GMANews.TV
