Another LPG price cut possible in July — marketers' group

A day after slashing prices of their products by 50 centavos per kilo, independent dealers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) hinted at the possibility of another price cut within this month. LPG Marketers' Association president (LPGMA) Arnel Ty said world prices are still on a downward trend, and may lead to another price cut as early as next week. "Meron pa itong buwan na ito. Ang trend pababa kaya ang ating presyo patuloy sa pagbaba. Maaring kung 'di next week, baka within the month meron kaming kasunod na pagbaba (We expect prices to go down again this month. The worldwide trend is downward so we expect to follow that trend. If the price cut does not come next week, we expect it within this month)," Ty said in an interview on dzBB radio. On Thursday, LPGMA members cut prices of their products by 50 centavos per kilo, down to P554 per 11-kg LPG tank. Even though Pilipinas Shell had announced a “bigger" P2/kilo rollback in its LPG prices effective Friday, Ty said major oil firms’ rates are still high. "Ang problema lang, hindi kasi binabanggit ng oil company ang suggested retail price. Kung mapapansinin ninyo kung kayo ay mag-iikot ang presyo nila nananatili sa mga P600, ang aming presyo ngayon P554," Ty said. (The problem is that the bigger oil companies do not come out with their suggested retail prices. If you go around, you will see their products are still priced above P600 per 11-kg tank. Ours are down to P554.) He also noted the major oil firms should be selling LPG at lower prices than those of the LPGMA since the association buys its supplies from them. "Ang sa kanila di dapat mahigit mas mataas sa amin, kami customer lang nila (They should be selling at much lower prices compared to us because we are their customers)," he said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
