No Pinoy killed in Taliban attack on USAID site in Afghanistan — DFA
No Filipino was killed during a recent attack of a house being used by the United States Agency for International Aid (USAID) in Afghanistan, the Department of Foreign Affairs clarified on Saturday. DFA spokesperson Ed Malaya said the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad made the clarification following reports that a Filipino was among the four people killed after Taliban suicide bombers stormed a four-storey USAID building in Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan. (See: Reports: Pinoy among dead in Taliban attack on USAID compound in Afghanistan) Filipino worker Joven Topanan, however, was among those injured due to the attack and is currently being treated at the Provincial Reconstruction Team offices in Kunduz, according to Malaya. Topanan works for Edinburg International, a governance and community development program in Kunduz province, the DFA spokesperson said. Malaya likewise reiterated that there is an existing ban on deploying workers to Afghanistan given the volatile situation in the country.—Andreo C. Calonzo/JV, GMANews.TV
