New DND admin bars employees from using main doors

Starting Monday, July 5, ordinary employees of the Department of National Defense (DND) are prohibited from using the main entrance of the defense building inside Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. A statement issued by the DND’s office of public and legislative affairs on Sunday said only DND officials, dignitaries, media personnel, and “other visitors" can use the DND building’s main entrance. Instead, ordinary employees — as well as service and delivery personnel — are ordered to use the edifice’s side entrance. “Starting July 5, department employees will use the side entrances of the DND building to get to work. The side entrances will also be utilized as a service entrance for utility personnel and deliveries," the statement read. The new system is part of the “new tradition" that will be implemented under newly appointed Defense chief Voltaire Gazmin, the statement added. “The first ever Monday of the new DND administration under the leadership of Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin will mark the birth of a new tradition," it said. Gazmin assumed the position last July 1, the first day of the administration of President Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III. The statement said the new Defense administration “wants to implement a more professional way of doing things in the department." It said the move “aims to increase efficiency and security for all concerned." “Until recently, the main entrance that leads to the lobby was used by everybody making it always congested with people and deliveries that sometimes make security personnel rush on in giving building passes without proper protocol," the statement said. Nevertheless, the DND said that the new administration is bent on making the department reach out to its employees and to the ordinary people. - KBK, GMANews.TV
