Floyd beats Pacquiao for ESPY best fighter plum


Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao and Canadian mixed martial arts fighter Georges St. Pierre to win his third best fighter award in the 18th annual ESPY Awards on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The undefeated and five-division world champion Mayweather previously won the award in 2007 and 2008 before retiring in early 2009. Pacquiao, the only boxer to win world titles in seven different weight divisions, took home the honors in 2009 during Mayweather’s retirement. Mayweather is coming off an impressive 12-round unanimous decision win against future Hall of Famer “Sugar" Shane Mosley on May 1. Pacquiao last fought on March 13 where he also scored a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Ghana’s Joshua Clottey. A megabuck fight on November 13 is being arranged by promoters of both camps after Pacquiao finally agreed to take the drug testing protocol that Mayweather is asking The ESPY Awards is an annual ceremony that honors the athletes' best performances throughout the year.
