Cop, carpenter get 80 yrs for murder of ex-mayor, son

A policeman and a carpenter are facing up to 80 years in jail after being convicted for the murder of a former mayor and his son in Cebu City six years ago. Radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported Friday a Cebu judge found PO1 Roque Marsan Bisnar and Neddy Polistico guilty of two counts of murder. Cebu Judge Gilbert Moises, after sentencing the two to life imprisonment, also ordered them to pay the relatives of victims some P350,000 in damages. Bisnar and Polistico were found guilty of killing former Hindang, Leyte Mayor Roy Jumao-as Sr. and his son Jake in Cebu City in 2004. Court records showed the victims were killed in an ambush on Gen. Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City on March 4, 2004. However, a report of Sun Star Cebu said the lawyers of Bisnar and Polistico will appeal the ruling as the two denied involvement in the crime. –VVP, GMANews.TV
