Report: Van driver shot dead by cop in Taguig

(Updated 8:04 p.m.) A policeman shot dead a van driver in a probable case of road rage in Taguig City on Friday, officials from the Southern Police District said. In a radio dzBB report, SPD spokesman Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson was quoted as saying the victim, identified as Abello Duque, was driving a van along Bayani Road with two helpers when a motorcycle hit the driver side of the van. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as PO1 Ricardo Concepcion, alighted and allegedly fired several shots at the driver, killing him. The victim sustained three gunshot wounds while the two van helpers were not hurt. A certain PO3 Villanos of the Taguig City Police who rushed to the crime scene to investigate said that no altercation ensued between the suspect and the victim, according to the radio report. "Wala raw pagtatalo. Basta kumuha na lang ng baril yung driver tapos umikot pa sa kabilang side at pinaputukan uli," the police officer said. (It seemed there was no altercation. The driver just pulled out a gun, and he even went to the van’s other side and fired more shots.) The assailant fled the scene after the shooting, abandoning his motorcycle. The suspect was identified through the name plate on the police uniform found inside the compartment of his motorcycle. Authorities said the patch on the uniform also indicated that the suspect is assigned to the Southern Police District. Tecson said Concepcion was new at the SPD and had only been on duty for one week.—Mark D. Merueñas, GMANews.TV
