PAGASA monitors new SLPA off Central Luzon

State weather forecasters are monitoring a new shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) off Central Luzon, days after "Basyang" (Conson) pounded the region and nearby provinces. But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) did not indicate if the SLPA could become a new cyclone. Should the SLPA eventually intensify into a cyclone, it will be codenamed "Caloy." As of 2 a.m. Saturday, PAGASA said the SLPA was estimated at 200 km east of Central Luzon. "Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the East and Southeast will prevail over the Eastern sections of the country and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough. Light to moderate winds blowing from the Southeast will prevail over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas. — LBG, GMANews.TV
