Predawn quake rocks Mindanao
A predawn magnitude-4.1 quake rocked parts of Mindanao before dawn Saturday, but state seismologists said no damage or aftershock was expected. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 2:47 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. Phivolcs said the epicenter was traced to 36 km east of General Luna in Siargao. It said the quake was felt at Intensity IV in Hondrado village in Socorro town, and in Gen. Luna and Pilar towns in Surigao del Norte. The quake was felt at Intensity III in Cortez, Surigao Del Sur; Intensity II in Mainit and Del Carmen, Surigao Del Norte; and San Agustin and Lanuza, Surigao del Sur. No damage or aftershock was expected, Phivolcs said. On the other hand, the United States Geological Survey said the quake measured at magnitude 4.6. USGS said the epicenter was traced to 95 km east-southeast of Surigao; 95 km northeast of Butuan; 120 km north of Hinatuan; or 810 km southeast of Manila. - KBK, GMANews.TV
