Stay close to shore, wear colored shirts, NDCC tells fishermen

As an active low-pressure area looms, fishermen in Central Luzon should stay near the shore and wear bright-colored shirts if they insist on going out to sea. This was the advice of the National Disaster Coordinating Council to fishermen as an active low-pressure area is threatening parts of Luzon and Mindanao. "Magsuot sila ng colored shirt para makita sa taas. Mahirap makita sa taas kung palutang-lutang ang kamiseta black o green (Fishermen should wear bright-colored shirts so search teams from the air can see them. It is hard to spot them floating in the sea if they wear dark-colored shirts like black or green), " NDCC administrator Benito Ramos said in an interview on dzBB radio. "Kung mangisda man sila huwag lumayo sa pampang. Kung kumulimlim ang panahon even without warning madali sila makauwi (If they insist on fishing they should not stray too far from shore. That way, if the weather turns bad, they can get home easily)," Ramos added. Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said an active low-pressure area will bring rains that may trigger flash floods and landslides over parts of Luzon and Mindanao. Should the active low-pressure area intensify into a cyclone, it will be codenamed "Caloy," the third to enter the Philippine territory this year, PAGASA said. —JE/VS, GMANews.TV
