PSALM wants Unified Leyte’s capacity split 60-40

Government-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) wants to split in two tranches the contracted capacities of the 640-megawatt (MW) Unified Leyte Geothermal power plants. Psalm will bid out Unified Leyte this July 30. The contracts could not be privatized as a single package as the winning bidder would breach power generation ceiling in the Visayas, said Conrad Tolentino, vice president for asset management and electricity trading of PSALM. Private companies may only generate through a grid up to 30 percent of the total generating capacity. Based on the bidding rules, Tolentino said the capacities would have to be divided via a 60-40 scheme, or 384 MW and 255 MW in the case of Unified Leyte. —JE/VS, GMANews.TV
