Ex-Kalinga town mayor shot dead

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – A former town mayor in Kalinga province was shot dead Tuesday while on a drinking spree with his associates in the provincial capital Tabuk City, police said Wednesday. Chief Inspector Bobby Glenn Ganipac, Tabuk city police chief, identified the victim as former Tanudan town mayor Gilbert Anganay. Initial investigation indicated the victim was drinking liquor with some of his associates inside a videoke bar in barangay Bulanao when he had a disagreement with one of his drinking buddies. Police said the argument turned into a violent altercation, which ended with suspect Santos Wacnang, a neighbor of the victim, allegedly pulling out a .45-caliber pistol tucked in his waist. Anganay tried to grab the gun from the suspect, but as the two struggled, the gun went off and hit the victim on the chest. Anganay was rushed to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Wacnang was immediately arrested by local police and is now facing murder charges.—Floro C.
