Report: 1 ton double dead meat seized in QC market raids

At least a ton of "double dead" pork was seized in raids on stalls at the Balintawak Market in Quezon City before dawn Thursday. Radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported police and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) team found the meat in cartons and sacks placed under the stalls. Operatives, however, failed to make arrests as the vendors managed to flee before the raiding teams arrived. A separate report on dzXL radio quoted NMIS senior meat inspector Dr. Rolando Marquez as saying the seized meat would be brought to Malabon City to be burned. Last July 12, also ton of double-dead meat was recovered from an abandoned truck at the Balintawak market area. No arrests were made, but police suspected those behind the hot meat might have been tipped off about the operation. In another incident on July 9, authorities seized at least two tons of double dead meat near a slaughterhouse in the Tramo area in Pasay City. City officials suspect the meat was meant to be mixed with meat from the slaughterhouse and sold in the city’s public market. As in the later operations, operatives failed to catch the owners of the hot meat. — LBG, GMANews.TV
