Woman nabbed for trying to sell own child in Cotabato

A 25-year-old mother has been arrested for trying to sell her five-month-old baby in the southern Philippine province of Cotabato last week. Makaria Ibrahim was apprehended last Friday while in the act of selling the infant to a market vendor for P1,000, according to Kabacan town police chief Senior Superintendent Joseph Semillano. Semillano said Ibrahim cited poverty as the reason for her act. He said he had contacted Ibrahim’s relatives to seek information regarding her mental condition. “Feel free to coordinate and come to our office to enlighten us for the real health condition of your family member," Semillano appealed to Ibrahim’s relatives. Ibrahim was placed under police protective custody, while her child was brought to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in Kidapawan City. – Williamor Magbanua/SD/KBK, GMANews.TV
