1 dead, 3 hurt in Ifugao landslide — police


One person was killed while three others were hurt following a landslide in the northern Philippine province of Ifugao Wednesday afternoon, police said. In a statement issued Thursday, Superintendent Leon Talleo of the Cordillera Police said the incident occurred 4 p.m. Wednesday when heavy rains triggered a landslide in Patilong village in Banaue town. The police identified the victims as Dadaan Ganggangan, 70 yrs old, married and a farmer; Isabel Ganggangan, 67 yrs old, married, housewife; Jayjay Bantayan Ganggangan, 4 yrs old, daycare pupil and Jason Bantayan Ganggangan, 6 yrs old, grade 1 pupil at Patilong Elementary School View Point, Banaue, Ifugao. Of the victims, the lone fatality was Jason, who was pronounced dead by attending physicians of the Good News Clinic. The others were treated and declared in good condition Citing reports reaching him, Talleo said the victims were all inside their home when heavy rains began to fall, causing the slope of the mountain to erode and subsequently sweeping the Ganggangan residence. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
