Magnitude-4.6 quake rocks Mindoro

A magnitude-4.6 quake rocked the Mindoro area in Southern Luzon Friday morning, even as state seismologists warned of possible aftershocks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 8:22 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was 24 km southeast of Mamburao town in Occidental Mindoro. It said the quake was felt at Intensity III in Mamburao, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, and Ilijan in Batangas. While Phivolcs said the quake was too weak to cause damage, it said aftershocks were possible. The United States Geological Survey said the quake measured at magnitude 4.7, and estimated the epicenter at 35 km west-southwest of Calapan, Mindoro; 60 km south-southwest of Batangas; 155 km south of Manila; or 175 km west-southwest of San Pedro, Laguna.— LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
