Security tightened at La Salle Greenhills for Cory's 1st death anniversary

Security was tightened Sunday at the La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City, where President Benigno Simeon Aquino III was to lead activities marking the first death anniversary of his late mother, former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino. Radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported police and presidential guards kept watch over the La Salle Greenhills, screening those trying to get inside the gates. Even media representatives were checked for proper accreditation before they were allowed inside, the report said. Outside the campus and at the nearby EDSA Shrine, the Eastern Police District (EPD) deployed at least 220 personnel to guard the premises, dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported. The EPD personnel included members of the District Mobile Group and Public Safety Battalion, who also had instructions to secure Mr. Aquino's route there from his Quezon City residence. The nation marks Mrs. Aquino's first death anniversary on August 1 this year. She succumbed to colon cancer in August 1, 2009.— LBG, GMANews.TV
