Possible cyclone may enter RP in coming weekend — PAGASA

A possible cyclone may enter Philippine territory - the fourth so far this year –this coming weekend, state weather forecasters said Sunday. Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration head Prisco Nilo said this was based on their mathematical models. "May ipinapakita sa mathematical models natin na posibleng magkaroon ng bagyo sa susunod na weekend, antabayanan natin (Our mathematical models indicate a possible cyclone this coming weekend)," Nilo said on government-run dzRB radio, but did not elaborate. He said PAGASA is now monitoring weather indicators, and will notify the public once such a cyclone forms. At least three cyclones have passed through Philippine territory this year, though only one - Basyang (Conson) - had caused widespread destruction. Should a fourth cyclone enter Philippine territory, it will be codenamed "Domeng." "Mino-monitor natin kung sakaling tama ang forecast ng mathematical models. Nakahanda naman tayo magbigay ng warning (We are monitoring indicators to see if our mathematical models are correct. We are ready to air the appropriate warnings)," Nilo said. Earlier, PAGASA said rains are expected to come in the coming weeks, and possibly raise water levels in dams such as Angat Dam. The water level at Angat Dam, which supplies 97 percent of Metro Manila's water needs, rose slightly Sunday morning at 163.34 meters, up 0.03 meter from 163.31 meters Saturday. But this level was still way below the "normal" water level of 180 meters. — LBG, GMANews.TV
