Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.4 quake hits Surigao


A magnitude-4.4 quake rocked Surigao in Mindanao Sunday afternoon, but state seismologists said no damage to property was expected. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 5:29 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was 56 kms northeast of Surigao City. There was no initial report of intensities felt in the area. No aftershock was expected from Sunday afternoon's quake, Phivolcs said. For its part, the United States Geological Survey said the quake's epicenter was 45 km east-northeast of Surigao, 110 km north-northeast of Butuan, 130 km south of Guiuan in Samar, or 750 km southeast of Manila. - KBK, GMANews.TV
