Two AFP trucks caught carrying illegal lumber in Palawan

Soldiers aboard at least two military trucks are now being investigated after they were caught allegedly transporting illegal logs in Palawan Sunday night. Radio dzBB's Palawan affiliate reported Monday police and environmental watchmen intercepted the two trucks in Puerto Princesa City. The report said the two M-35 (6x6) trucks of the military's Western Command, with body number 34 and 36, yielded eight slabs of narra wood, 12 pieces of round timber, and ipil wood of various sizes. The driver of one of the trucks was identified as Technical Sergeant Rolando Daculap, who is currently being investigated along with Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit members who escorted the two trucks. Initial investigation showed the soldiers failed to present proper transport permit and certifications from the Environment Department and local village officials. Although the soldiers claimed they had a certification from Langogan village, local village officials denied issuing such a document. –VVP, GMANews.TV
