(Update) Suspected carjack gang leader dies in Makati shootout


A suspected leader of a carjacking and robbery syndicate died after engaging policemen in a shootout early Monday morning in Makati, police said. In a text message to reporters, Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz said Ivan Padilla was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by attending doctors at the Ospital ng Makati where he was taken after a reported shootout about 5 a.m. along General Luna Street in Makati City. Another suspect, identified as Mark Inducil, was arrested, Cruz said. GMANews.TV confirmed Ivan Padilla's death with PNP spokesman Rommel Miranda, who could not give further details on his death as they are still waiting for the final report from Ospital ng Makati.


Police earlier claimed to have busted a major carjacking syndicate following the neutralization of Padilla's group.
