Suspect in bombing of ex-solon's home killed in Cotabato shootout

The suspect behind the bombing of former Maguindanao first district Rep. Didagen "Digs" Dilangalen's house in December 2009 was killed in a shooting incident in Cotabato City, the local police said Tuesday. Senior Superintendent Willie Dangane, city police chief, said Nasser Kadil Beda, 24, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after the incident that happened along Demazenod Avenue Extension in Rosary Heights, Cotabato City at 8:45 p.m. Monday. Samsodin Galoy Dam, Beda's companion at the time of the incident, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Dangane said responding policemen initially had difficulties in getting near Beda's body after spotting a grenade beside it. Apart from the grenade, investigators also later recovered two pieces of slug and an empty shell for a caliber-45 pistol. Beda was linked to the bombing of Dilangalen's house on Dec. 27, 2009, wherein a fragmentation grenade was lobbed at the former lawmaker's home. No one was killed or hurt in the incident. Dilangalen and his family were out of town when the incident happened. Police records showed Beda was earlier arrested and charged with multiple frustrated murder. But he was later released after paying a P120,000 bail bond last July 20. — Mark Merueñas/RSJ, GMANews.TV
